The First Theif by Theresa Baker

Witness to a torn grave

yet blown away as a forgotten dandelion

my life reduced to Luke 23:39, one of the simple faceless mockers while the other cross was saved.

yet God did not forget me

the illiterates of Jerusalem whispering fairy tale miracles

would you have believed without seeing?

Law’s letter made no excuse for a starving nephew

my words spilled from pain, fear

now I sit in paradise because he forgives.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Theresa Baker has been published in "Boned", "Charles Carter", and "Scarlet Leaf". For her, writing poetry is a way to create worlds in less than a page, including expanding on the lives of Bible figures. She lives in Indianapolis.

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!" derives from Psalm 150:6
