Life Proceedings by Savannah Love

Annie Spratt

You carry me to the desolate place
where we mourn the death of my heart
Fragments of things held captive
lay abandoned in sand.
We buried the broken pieces
in the depths where they were claimed.

Some sad stories have happy endings
and some deaths have new beginnings.

The one who raised the dead
is the one who raises me.
The one who presses new wine from water
is the one who builds victory from surrender.

On this day, we rejoice
in the passing of me and cherish
new beginnings planted in my heart.
This heart that rests in his secret place
is the most alive it could ever be.
