Wings of the Morning by Katie Setterberg

Ashleigh Joy

Lamentations,
new mercies promised
in the midst of sorrow.
New mornings follow,
but when?

What about the now?
What about the pain?
What about the unknown
suffering?

What about the injustice?
What about the sting?
Where are the mercies
in these things?
They ride on the wings
of the morning.

Hope is found in the dirt and the hay -
in the birth of a baby
who bears our shame,
who takes our pain,
who gives us His name,
who won’t leave nor forsake
the ones for whom he came.

His promises remain
and now, we wait.
Eyes fixed on Him to fix it all,
a crucifix shaped hope
who rides on the wings of the morning.

Cries calling out
from deepest pain
for another way,
echos of the stain,
and on the edge of it all,
new life awaits
on the wings of the morning.
