Upside-Down Kingdom by Tara Cho

Annie Spratt

It seems like wreckage—
the carnage of birds,
overturned soil,
piles of scorched earth and plant,
scattered thorns—
the remnants of where our Savior hung.
Beware the deceit of worldly perception.
These fleeting, lifeless, choked
attempts of survival—
this illusion of failure—
marks the place where Salvation begins.
Deep beneath the soil,
God tends the mustard seed,
destined to tower over chaos—
last
becoming
first.
