The Long Way by Alysia Quinn

displaced but homeward bound
and guided by constancy
the north star ushers

what glorious
and agonizing attempts
I make
to find ways
to speak the unspeakable

an ache to name
a wayfarer of words
and in
the waiting
the listening

for what the echoes
may whisper back
from the cavernous places
in which I inhabit

to fill the anguishing silence
and yet
hold it with reverence

as the compass needle
pulls and shifts
my course by constellations

and from the palm
of my hand
I’m taking what feels like
the long way around

Alysia Quinn lives on the Florida Gulf Coast where she feels most at home and alive, soaking up warm air and beach sunsets.  She is a wife and mother to 2 beautiful children.  Creative expression has been instrumental in her healing journey. Most recently, she has focused on writing poems each day along with sharing her nature-inspired photographs helping her to connect with God and others, look for beauty and reclaim what has been lost.
