Sonnet for C.S. Lewis by Peter Lilly

We are remade in every moment.

Though the beaten track lies before our feet,

Predestination is a temptation

Rather than a given. We have movement

Enough in our destinies to defeat

The map, discover a destination

Inaccessible to all who would shun

The road of impossible resistance.

We have capacities to break and mend

Beyond the fences of mental protection,

The zeitgeist’s perpetual insistence

To delimit all one might apprehend.

Here it is, the substance that makes you more.

You’re made of it! A tangible true ‘lore.
