Sending Uneasy Hearts by Catherine A. Coundjeris

Dylan Alcock

Stunned again I am transfixed,
observing the colors in the sky,
deepening even as the sun spins away,
falling beyond the mountain only
to rise again upon the other side of the planet.

Every evening the familiar
yet incomparable show unfolds;
The sweep of clouds in strokes
so grand no human hand can paint it.

The formations beyond majestic
In gestures so sensitive and subtle
that I am obsessed with the sky,
wanting desperately to paint
with words what I can’t with canvas.

The cosmic brush paints in
the blood of humanity and
the water of our tears,
and the salt of our sweat,
causing tiny crystals in the sky
as prisms to reflect upon.

A way to witness the
light of creation in safety
beneath the shadow of Love’s wing
On the deck where time is sweet.

A sacred touch mixing and blending with the
descending darkness,
creating even more shades of color,
sending uneasy hearts to rest with
hope at the end of the day that
their night will not last.
