Melancholy by Taiwo Oki

O' melancholy man, let the past be past!
Look deep into the earth, and you'll find that
you are not the worst beneath the sky.
Let the bright hope make you rise
and pray for those in deeper pain.

O' melancholy man, let the past be past!
You can still be what you want to be;
You still have living dreams,
don't bury them with the dark of yesterday.

O' melancholy man, why are you depressed?
Because others have soared ahead of you?
Dream your own height and flap your wings!
There is no first, and there is no last;

Life is not a game.

O' melancholy man, let the past be past!
Your future is everything – so rise!
Be the phoenix rising from its ashes,
Cease to make sorrow your day and night
; only making things worse.

O' melancholy man, let the past be past!
Draw nearer to Christ who loves you
and you will find great hope and peace.
“I have great plans for you,” He says.
So trust in Him,
He is not a man that He should lie.

O' melancholy man, Let the past be past!
You have the choice to make.

"Let the past be past" – from Alfred Tennyson’s The Foresters Act I, scene III -The Outlawry.
