I Envy Agar Pond by Alexis Lorene

Agar pond is still,

her breath is deep and quiet;

She is a mirror to the morning –

the tree line and sky,

the swallow dancing in her reach;

She knows all that surrounds her –

the bass, perch, and snapping turtle

sleep within her belly.

I sit, stalk still on the dock and

dare not touch her,

dare not disturb such beauty.

For the water sees each of her neighbors and

dares to display their splendor.

Alexis Lorene lives in Pennsylvania with her spouse and their cat, Minty. Her work has been published by Power for Living, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and Essay. Her writing is honest, vivid, and is caught in the balance of beauty and sorrow.
