Candles of the Altar by Lauren Solorzano

I watch as they flicker,
Keeping steady and strong,
The assembly around them,
Quietly praying along.

The sanctuary is beautiful,
The candles burn bright.
They know not how to give less,
Only their truest light.

Their entirety spent in communion,
Although they do not know;
Brightly, they burn,
Not too fast, not too slow.

To spend their whole life adoring,
And only adding beauty
Is the life we should strive for
If only we could be…

A candle burning brightly
All through our life
To God be the glory
In health, sickness and strife.
