Blanca by Maria Macik

The moment she ran into your loving arms,

did you wrap her in your shawl?

Did you greet her with a sunflower?

They were her favorite, after all.

Did she ask if you are her father?

And did you respond, “I am”?

Did she smile and rest assured

when she embraced the peaceful lamb?

A sister resting young

is now set free.

Yet I still sit and wonder,

does she ever think of me?

My name is Maria Macik, and I currently live in Texas. Raised in Nicaragua, my family moved to the U.S. when I was seven years old. At a young age, I fell in love with words and the power they can have in changing lives. I wrote regularly in my journals and was often considered a gifted writer by my teachers. With my family's history of mental illness impacting my life in tremendous ways, I decided to put my writing dreams on hold and pursue a degree in psychology. I attended university and graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology, a master's degree in educational psychology, and finally, a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology. I am now thirty-four years old and feel a strong calling to return to my writing. I currently focus most of my time writing fiction with the goal to bring more people to God through creative storytelling. I have witnessed God's love throughout my life and feel strongly that he has given me the gift of writing so that it can serve as a vehicle bringing others closer to him.
