Great Gramma’s Farm by Annie Nardone

The heavy air of a fresh-turned field.

Gravel roads framing the square-acre plots,

After the earth has given her yield.

Tractor and plow rest in low muddy spots.

Crisp breeze and bright skies promise drier days ahead.

Across the road, behind a fence, cattle cluster in knots.

Golden fields threshed and mown for daily bread.

Geese in precision v-formation glide to a distant pond.

Rainwater fills hollows where now the deer tread.

Annie Nardone is an author, educator, and bibliophile who holds an M.A. in Cultural Apologetics from Houston Christian University and is a C.S. Lewis Institute Fellow. She writes for the apologetics quarterly www.anunexpectedjournal.com and www.thecultivatingoakspress.com and the Anselm Society. Her poetry is published in Calla Press and Poetica. Annie collaborated on three books published by Square Halo Books and Rabbit Room Publishing, and wrote a historical cookbook. She is a Master Teacher for Western Civilization and Creative Writing. Interests include medieval literature, poetry, antiquarian books, and the writings of Lewis and Tolkien.
