When are you open for submissions?
At Calla Press Publishing, we are committed to publishing books that radiate truth, beauty, and goodness and point hearts toward Christ Jesus. We are currently CLOSED to all book submissions at this time.
Please subscribe to receive more information regarding submissions, as subscribers have first access to that information. Due to the influx of submissions received during our open window, please wait 6 months to hear back about the status of your query if interested. Otherwise, we kindly ask that you do not inquire about your submission if you have not heard back from us within that time frame. If you have not heard back after 6 months, please understand we were not able to take on your book project.
What do you publish?
At our publishing house, we publish children's books, from board books to middle-grade, Christian education, as well as select Christian nonfiction and fiction titles. We do not publish poetry, self-help, or study guides at this time. While books do not need to be overtly Christian, they must respect our Statement of Faith. Clara's Quilt, Reading with Remmy, and The Girl Whose Frown Shook the Ground are great examples of what we hope to publish if not directly Christian in nature.

LITERARY AGENTS
If you’re a literary agent, please put agented query in the subject line. We remain open to solicited manuscripts throughout the year.
We are currently closed to all book submissions at this time. Any book submissions emailed now will be overlooked and not considered.
KEEP IN MIND
FOR SUBMISSIONS
Manuscript
When we open for book submissions, a simple query that follows the guidelines below will suffice before we ask for a book proposal. Manusripts do not need to be completed nor do illustrations for acquiring new projects at Calla Press Publishing.
RESPONSE TIME
Please expect to wait 6 months before hearing word about your submission. If acquired, please expect to wait 15-17 months for release. We strongly advise writers not to submit to Calla Press Publishing if they're hoping for a faster route. Please be sure to follow all submission guidelines.
Previously published
We do not accept previously published work that has been self-published, especially through self-publishing companies. It would have to be entirely removed and not available online to consider a book query at this time.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR BOOK QUERY
Please include the following—BOOK Query for Lit. Genre—(i.e., Nonfiction/Christian Living, Fiction/Christian Romance, Fiction/Children’s PB)—in the subject line of your email when submitting your query to [a new Formester will come soon when submissions open; this page will be updated in 2027 on how to submit book queries].
Your query letter must include:
- A working title/sub-title
- Genre, i.e. (Nonfiction, Fiction/Christian Living)
- A brief description of the proposed book/word count
- Why do you think it’s valuable to publish?
- Your intended audience
- Your curriculum vita in a bio statement form (3-5 sent.)
- 3 Sample chapters (full MS for children’s books)
Please include your query and sample/full MS in a PDF attachment. Don’t worry about the body of your email; a simple attachment will suffice, as that is what I’ll be looking for and reading. Failure to do so will result in an overlooked submission.
