Thomas by Sarah Law

I would touch his risen skin,
place my fingers in the aureole
where his broken body birthed
the remedy for sin—
I would proclaim my faith, and rest in him.

But lately, it is he who has touched me,
and traced the ragged edges of my life
where I have staggered in and out of darkness,
searching—for that quietude of heart
where he would rest within.

Sarah Law lives in Norwich, UK, and is a tutor, poet, and editor of the online journal Amethyst Review. Her novel, Sketches from a Sunlit Heaven (Wipf and Stock, 2022) is a 2023 Illumination Book Award silver medal winner.
