Skeleton Song by Savannah Love

Annie Spratt

Skeletons hum lullabies on mossy rocks

for restless reeds and skipping pebbles.

Music gushes down a river bend,

into the hollow ear of a winter’s breeze.

The sun embellishes his golden meadow,

wishfully waiting for his skeleton’s song.

He imagines a sweet tune,

the kind that breaks a heart

then melts it back together,

a melody of peace built from broken pieces.

The sun coats his dry bones

ready to soak his sweet, somber song and carry his skeleton home.
