Sighting Under Ice by Joe Bisicchia

So much may melt, but

what remains imperishable at the core?

As if stamped beneath the skin

of frozen Lake Michigan

at bottom of Little Traverse Bay

in 22 feet of frigid water about 800 feet

from shore, a memorial

to divers who perished, a reminder

of ongoing grace without expiration date,

waits.

There, an underwater 11-foot crucifix

beckons epiphany, face to face.

A long line, one by one,

despite all our sorrows, we walk

with all our hopes upon the water,

this lake of ice, to the sawed opening,

and see.

Joe Bisicchia writes of our shared dynamic. An Honorable Mention recipient for the Fernando Rielo XXXII World Prize for Mystical Poetry, his works have appeared in numerous publications with over 175 individual poems published. The commonality of humankind runs through all his work, and he writes of the extraordinary power of faith in ordinary, everyday life.
