"Scars" Poem by Heather Freeman

When it hurts so bad you can’t even see,

Take a walk with me – look closely at my feet.

When your heart cries out, “No one even understands!”

Come near to me – do you see my hands?

When you’re begging for answers but they all seem to hide,

Listen to me – place your hands in my side.

See, I know your struggles, your heartache, your pain.

I knew them all before you knew your own name.

Through your tears and your scars, I hope you can realize

I am with you, but more than that, I sympathize.

So when all you see is pain and all you feel is sorrow,

I have been there too – think of me and know

I was forsaken so you never have to be alone.

I was broken so you could be made whole.

Here, show me your scars and I’ll show you mine.

Our stories, you’ll see, will always intertwine.

We both have scars and we both know love.

Neither is something to be scared of.

Please understand, precious friend, it was for you I died.

Look on me once more – my hands, my feet, my side.

I'm 25-years-old and currently live in NC with my husband and our two ridiculous cats. Right now, I work part-time doing residential house-cleaning. I enjoy a few different passions including photography, drawing, poetry, nature, and animals. Lately, I have been wanting to share more of what I love in ways that will point others to Christ.
