Liturgy For A Grandchild by Gina Gallagher

Father, you have blessed me with this child of my child.

I search the tiny face and see glimpses of the child I bore so many years ago.

I remember the tiny fingers that closed around mine.

I remember the rosebud mouth as I waited for that first smile.

And now I hold this little one who brings me back, yet moves me forward.

I pray for all the possibilities that You have sovereignly placed in this child.

You have a purpose for this little one that no one else can fulfill. My grandchild has a special place in this world and a special place in my heart.

Father, You created my grandchild in Your image.

As an Image Bearer, this little one has dignity, worth, and value.

Help my child teach my grandchild about You.

Only then will my grandchild have true wisdom.

I pray that You will help me support and encourage my child as the parent of this child.

Let me never interfere with what You are doing in their lives.

Use me as You see fit to make You known.

May my life glorify You as I love my precious grandchild.

Father, I pray that my grandchild will grow strong in You.

I pray that my grandchild will come to saving faith in the Lord Jesus at an early age.

I pray that this precious little one will walk in Your strength and stand strong amid the turbulence of this world.

I pray that my grandchild loves what You love and hates what You hate.

I pray for little eyes to only see the good and the beautiful.

I pray for little ears to hear the beauty of Your creation in every birdsong and every gentle breeze.

I pray for little hands to make, and work, and cultivate all to Your Glory.

I pray for little feet to go near and far with the Good News of all that You have done for them.

Father, this child is a gift.

You have given me the privilege of raising my child and the privilege of seeing my grandchild being raised.

Please continue the legacy of faith that You started in me.

May generations of our family, love You and serve You well.

May my grandchild’s life reflect You.

May my grandchild hear Your voice above the din of this world.

May my grandchild love Your Word and cling to Truth.

May my grandchild love to talk to You in prayer.

Thank you, Father, for the gift of this child.

May our home be a haven of peace.

May my countenance be one of joy.

I ask that You give me strength and stamina when I care for my grandchild.

Father, Your loving kindness and tender mercy is so precious to me.

I ask that my faith is alive and real to my grandchild.

I pray that this little one will see Christ in me, the Hope of glory.

Father, help me be the kind of grandparent You want me to be for this child.

I love You and need You desperately.

In the strong name of Jesus. Amen.
