Heart Race by Nicole Cage

I sit still

yet my heart races

in frenzied tandem

with my mind

Heavy footfalls.

Why am I

so anxious?

Why can’t I

find rest?

In my insufficiency

He shows me

The race

of my heart

has become a race

for perishing prizes:

Checked boxes

Impressive titles

Man’s approval

In my anxious state

His peace speaks

a truthful reminder

That I do not run

in an arena

of this world

That the race

of my heart

is a race

to my home

To him who is strength

in the toughest

of terrains

To him who is rest

in the greatest

of pains

To him who is joy

in the deepest

of valleys

So be still

my heart

run the race

you are called to run

Run home.
