Apricity by Abigail Thompson

Perhaps knowing God feels like this
Like the warmth of the sun in winter

Perhaps lifting our eyes to the cross
Is like turning our face toward the light on a wintry afternoon

Yet why must winter be at all?

Perhaps we must know the cold of this broken world
To feel the fullness of the father’s warmth

Perhaps this winter is merely a season
This barrenness making way for new life to spring forth

How kind God is to give us apricity
Moments of warmth and goodness in this fallen and fading world

When our skies are gray and our winters long
May we turn our eyes sunward

May the sustaining grace of our Father
Be like apricity to our souls

May the warmth of the sun in winter ever remind us that spring is coming

Abigail Thompson is a student at Cedarville University studying Professional Writing and Women’s Ministry. She is passionate about words that point to her Savior and desires that her pen always be guided by his grace. You will often find Abigail on her front porch in the evenings, writing with her Bible open and her dog by her side. She loves sharing about biblical femininity, contentment, and the kindness of God as he works in her life. Her prayer is that her words might spur others on in their pursuit of Christ.
