an ode to pink by Emma Michael

pink scar pink skin pink sunrise pink glow of
morning upon closed eyelids

pink prayers

wrought in a rush of the day’s newness and in
the spirit of believing beginnings are
always possible pink with
the kind of hope that we cling to
before today begins with its terrors
and sucker punches

we bleed a pink so dark it has been renamed
crimson for the hope
of the soft color reached a boiling point of
conviction and we should be
thankful
because pink is rebirth
and red is repentance and
we have both

pink is not weak it is not
naïve it is a statement: failure has not won
because new skin is forming and new sky is clearing

pink—

it is a promise for us children: you cannot stifle revival

Emma Michael is a wife, mother, and oft-stumbling sheep kept securely by The Great Shepherd. Writing and reading poetry has been one of her lifelong joys, and she is grateful to Calla Press for the opportunity to share some of her words with you, to the glory of God.
