Ordinary Things by Kaylee Dahl

I imagine
the sparrows are chattering
about ordinary things -

like where to find
the best worms
or when it might rain -

but to me,
it sounds like singing.
I wonder, then,

if while I whisper
to a friend or a child
or a stranger,

or when a prayer
goes stumbling
out of my mouth,

if God hears a song.

Kaylee Dahl is a former elementary school teacher turned stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She is inspired by the beauty of this world through her young daughter’s eyes and attempts to reflect on that beauty through writing.
