Morning Run by Jessica Whipple

I don’t reject the liturgy--

it’s in my legs

and running

by definition, is rote

the painful process

over pavement, fallen leaves

each dizzying step

sometimes the only prayer

I can think to offer.

Jessica Whipple is a writer for adults and children. Her poetry has been published by One Art, Nurture, Ekstasis, Rathalla Review, Stanchion, and Door is a Jar. Her debut picture book titled ENOUGH will be published in spring 2023 by Tilbury House, and another titled I THINK I THINK A LOT is forthcoming by Free Spirit Publishing.
