Metamorphosed by Brit McReynolds

his are descending steps

on starlight

whose stars align themselves

a path for noble feet

that trailing robe that once

had swept the temple floor

doffed and draped

over the throne

for later use

he wanders down

as entering a pool

every inch submerged

transforms the dismal gloom

waters fit to drink

and we, like tadpoles

crown the head

that below the waters sink

and should we seek

to follow in his steps

should well sprout legs

to carry us

to lands

beyond our reach

metamorphosed

heavenly beings

climbing back

the starlit rungs

on holy feet
