Holy New by Madeline Wilkins

Silent mystery
Now flesh and bone.
Of me - Yet not me.

Holy new and
Wholly you.

The sacred mingling of
Divinity and dirt;
The Potter and his
Clay.

Still wet with the
Imprint of His scarred palms.
His skin eternally
Stained with your earth-essence.

Scooping up ordinary soil spinning
Shaped and molded
Until finally He sings:
Good, very good!

When you take your first breath
And wail your arrival song
We whisper
“Welcome home”

But you know better;
You were home all along.
Before I held you
You were held by the hands of God.
