Daughter by Emma McCabe

What does it mean to be a daughter?
I’ve spent years pondering the answer

I used to think it meant earning and striving and building my way up
Until I was perfect enough to stand still, unblemished

And then I thought it just meant to show up
Barefaced and open-hearted, expectant

It wasn’t until my Father moved deeply in my heart
That I realized I had it all wrong

You see my identity had always been wrapped up in things of the world
My grades, my job, my relationship, my looks

And He whispered gently in my ear,
“You just have to belong to me, beloved.”

Emma McCabe is a 25-year-old living at the beaches of Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a Minor in English. She loves the Lord and her family, reading, writing, and the beach.
