"As a Wave" & "Tonight" Poems by Michael Hartland

As a Wave

As a wave

God swept me away

The sands of my stability

dissolved

But drowning

was a baptism

I found myself standing

on a rock

With a new heart

and a bold new face

Gazing at a beautiful new horizon

with a sun that never sets.

Tonight

Tonight I felt at peace

I let God be

tonight I left off doubting

for I could see

That God is the ground of our being

with him all things make sense

and the worship he requires

is our obedience.
