When I hear the news that someone else has gotten the gift I've yet to open,

My heart closes the shades and my throat crisscrosses into a knot.

It is then that I take my unknowing chest

And tell it, “Stop heaving and rest.”

Because He knows what I don't and sees each brick as it is laid,

Making a mansion where I thought a grave.
