A Confession of Vocation by Madison Williams

Will my desire ever find fulfillment?

To be God’s chosen vessel,

bringing forth

a new reflection of Eden’s grace,

this deep longing

has made its home in me.

I once believed the calling of woman

was not mine.

My bare ring finger grew the thick skin

of self-denial.

Through my daily rhythms of solitude,

I built a tower of stone

to safeguard my desire

from disappointment.

Can I still unlock the tower door,

letting longing find vocation?

Is it too late for me

to play peekaboo and

hear the sweet laugh of one

born of my womb?

To the One who has always known,

I finally confess:

I want it all.

Midnight nursing and bedtime stories,

tired nights and sleepy eyes,

raising little ones

in righteousness.

Yes, give it all to me.

Give me motherhood.

Hannah’s prayer reached Your ears—

Lord, will mine?
